Practice and grading

Open an exercise, select the section and tempo, then start the transport. The notation cursor follows the heard beat. Rhythma compares each expected note with incoming MIDI and classifies the outcome using the current practice profile and timing alignment.

The core timing labels are:

  • Perfect: landed inside the central timing window.
  • Early or Late: correct hit outside that central window but within the accepted match window.
  • Missed: no matching hit arrived.
  • Extra: a hit arrived without a matching expected note.
  • Wrong pad: timing matched, but the played voice did not.

Timing can decide the whole score or contribute a displayed percentage alongside expression. Dynamic scoring requires trustworthy MIDI velocities; computer-keyboard input uses fixed velocity and cannot provide genuine dynamic measurements.

Use Loop Repeat to practise a fixed number of loops or continuously. Speed Builder can raise or lower tempo by the selected BPM Step when the Score Threshold is met. Section controls let you isolate bars before starting transport.

Run Timing Alignment before judging a consistent early/late bias. Calibration should align the setup, not erase natural variation.
