How MIDI works

Electronic drum modules send MIDI note numbers and velocities: the note identifies a pad or zone, while velocity records how hard it was struck. Rhythma listens for note-on messages, maps them through the selected kit profile, and uses their timestamps during recording and grading.

Desktop Web MIDI

1. Connect the module to the computer by USB, or connect a MIDI interface.
2. Turn the module on before opening Rhythma.
3. Select Connect MIDI and approve the browser permission prompt.
4. Open Settings → MIDI → MIDI Monitor and strike several pads. The monitor shows Note, Vel, Pad, and whether each input is Mapped or Unmapped.

Use a current Chromium-based desktop browser. Safari and Firefox do not provide the Web MIDI path used by the web studio. MIDI access also requires a secure page and browser permission.

iPhone and iPad

iOS does not expose Web MIDI to ordinary browser tabs. Use Rhythma’s iOS app path for wired or Bluetooth MIDI, and grant Bluetooth access if prompted. Pair the device in the app’s MIDI flow rather than the Bluetooth audio settings.

MIDI contains performance data, not your module’s sound. Keep listening through the module, or enable Play drum samples for MIDI hits in MIDI Monitor when you specifically need Rhythma to monitor hits.
