Generic USB MIDI

Most class-compliant drum modules need only a data-capable USB cable. If your module has five-pin MIDI only, connect MIDI OUT to a USB MIDI interface’s MIDI IN.

1. Connect and power the hardware before opening the studio.
2. Choose Connect MIDI and allow access.
3. In Settings → MIDI, start with the GM Standard profile.
4. Use MIDI Monitor to test every pad and zone.

The monitor reports the MIDI Note, Vel, resolved Pad, and Mapped status. Incoming hits prove the connection works even when the wrong sound or lane is selected.

For non-GM layouts, choose MIDI Learn — Create Custom Profile. The guided flow covers kick; snare head, rim, and cross-stick; closed/open hi-hat and pedal; tom heads/rims; crash; and ride bow/bell/edge. Optional extra cymbals can be added before naming the profile.

Rhythma records MIDI velocity from 1–127. Set sensitivity and velocity curves on the module so ordinary playing uses a broad range without constantly reaching 127. Fix double triggers, crosstalk, and thresholds in the module first.
